Where does an actuary work?

There are many opportunities on the labour market for actuaries.

Actuaries are employed at Insurance and reinsurance companies, banks and financial institutions, social security and pension institutions, consulting firms and supervising / regulatory instances.

Initially, actuaries focused more on analysing and projecting the life expectancy. Gradually, the actuarial sciences covered a broader spectrum, in life and non-life insurance and other areas where risks and their consequences should be quantified.

The first generations of actuaries were more specialised mathematicians, but now actuaries have different backgrounds in mathematics or economics, always complemented with a strong actuarial education.

Today, actuaries enter into new domains such as data science and artificial intelligence where their high level of training in financial and actuarial concepts can bring new insights in a fast moving environment.
